Heartbreak on a full face!

makeup

As a makeup artist and fashion addict I mean it when I say inspiration for a makeup look or ootd can literally come from anywhere and anything. Since its release I have been playing Chris Brown’s recent album ‘Heartbreak on a full moon’ on repeat and I’ve always been a huge fan of everything he’s done.

‘Everybody knows’ I’m definitely the creative type of person and so for me it wasn’t ‘even’ just the music that caught my attention with the album. I thought the albums cover was really artistic and interesting so me being me started to ask myself ‘questions’ about if it was possible to create similar art ‘on me.’

h2

Using an album cover’s art to create makeup art is something I’d never even considered doing till I saw this but I decided to switch up the ‘tempo’ a bit and try something new.

Admittedly, it didn’t take me long to get the creative juices flowing and figure out how I was going to work the design and include different parts of the cover in the makeup to create this finishing look.

imG1

I decided to take the black background of the cover with the pink of the moon and create my eyes using those colours. I went for a halo eye makeup design to almost represent the moon in the centre of the night sky just like the albums cover. However, we all know ‘this ain’t’ gonna be any makeup look of mine without a little sparkle! So, I added a sprinkle of glitter across the pink colour on my lid to replicate the stars and the moons iridescent glow.

imG4imG3

Now onto the lips. No look is complete without a good lipstick and with this look it was definitely the most important part in helping the look to resemble Brown’s album cover.

The album’s heart is the centre of attention and with the drip effect being a really artistic contribution to the cover I really wanted to find a way to include it without either making the look appear messy or horror like and I didn’t want to just take the colour red and implement it into the look. So I recreated the creative drip effect on my lips simply using liquid lipstick and plumping gloss. I was relatively pleased with it’s outcome although I will admit using plumping gloss meant my lips were numb for the next half hour or so!

imG2

All in all, I think the look came out well and it was something new that I actually really enjoyed getting creative with and it’s something I’d like to continue experimenting with so ‘tell me what to do’ and give me your favourite album covers and suggestions for me to experiment with. If ‘you like’ and you’ve got some artistic ‘confidence’ and flair why don’t you try a similar thing and share them with me over on my Instagram (rosiedotmay) and keep your eyes open for my new creations. I for one ‘hope you do’ give it a go!

A bonus is you can create the exact same look without dragging the gloss on your lips down and you’ve got a fab colourful yet wearable full face makeup look.

Tis the season!

Lifestyle

Another Christmas and New year has arrived and left in the blink of an eye. And I should probably open with saying that I hope yours was filled with a fuck tonne of food and booze.

Christmas this year was a different one for me for many reasons. Admittedly, I didn’t plan to be home in England this year but after leaving France a few weeks early my Christmas was spent in my home town. So you can guarantee that my Christmas Eve was spent in the local pub getting merry in the spirit of the season. My night started with me drinking Desperados with lime until my vision was blurred and ended with me sat in the back of a car eating chicken. (Personally I think keeping it classy is sometimes overrated.)

However, through my Beer goggles and clouded mind I couldn’t help but think that as I looked around at the people that surrounded me, that just because it’s the season to be jolly, that doesn’t mean that everyone there was there to celebrate. Christmas is a stressful period for us all and people were either necking tequila shots at the bar in the spirit of Christmas, or they were downing Sambuka because they had their own shit to deal with and couldn’t give two shits about what day of the year it was. Regardless of what the reason is as to why we all happen to be in the local on such a day, the one thing we all have in common is that Christmas is a time for us all to to drink a shit load of booze, forget about everything else and just let go. And to that I raise my glass and say Merry fucking Christmas bring it on 2018.

Now as the hangovers slowly die out and the Yorkshire pud weight slowly starts to leave us all, we have hit the new year. Now I’m definitely not one for New Years resolutions. I know myself and there’s no point me setting a few ridiculous standards for myself to try and meet when in reality I know I’m never gonna change. So I guess all that’s left to say is no matter what your situation this season has been and no matter whether or not you’ve set yourself goals for the new year Happy New year and let’s go kick some ass together in 2018!

Coming out!

fashion, Lifestyle

If you clicked on this post thinking you’d be reading a juicy story about my life then you might as well stop here because you’re totally wrong. I’ll hold my hands up and admit the title is a little misleading but isn’t that a common thing nowadays with almost everything we read?

Recently I had a bit of a falling out with myself. It happens to the best of us for various different reasons. My reasoning was that I was becoming far too comfortable with comfort. Let me explain.

As I mentioned in my previous post, I never was the sort of girl to care about what I wore and how it looked. I always loved makeup but never had a passion for style. Everyday I dressed in whatever was just comfortable, hoodies and jumpers, jeans and trainers and don’t get me wrong I still have those days just like every other gal! And I dressed in pretty much nothing but black. But then I began to feel unhappy. I was down about how I didn’t like what stared back at me in the mirror, down about the fact I didn’t look like all the other girls that were taller than me and more filled out than me, down that I just no longer felt that the way I looked represented anything about who I am or what I stand for. In today’s world most girls and boys will suffer with body confidence issues at some stage in their life. I personally have suffered from a young age with loathing the way that I look. But after feeling sorry for myself I knew that if I wanted something to be done about it the only person that was going to do it was me. So here’s the point in this post in which the title may become a little clearer. I came out. I came out of my comfort zone.

How many times do you tell yourself the following things when trying on clothes? “I couldn’t pull that off” or “It isn’t what I’d usually go for” or “I’m far too old to dress that way.” Growing to be comfortable in a new style of clothing or learning to be okay with trying new colors starts with wearing them with confidence. Anyone can put on a piece of clothing but not everyone can look good in it. Looking good in something starts with feeling good in whatever it may be.

Before deciding to change my mindset about the clothing I was choosing to purchase never in a million years would I have been seen dead in this much color. I’d always see clothing and shoes online and in articles that I adored and that I thought were unique and quirky but never would’ve put myself in it. After coming out I’m so much more confident within myself. No matter what others think of the way I dress and present myself I feel good and that’s all that should matter to you about yourself.

After coming out I feel like my style finally reflects me, my quirks and my attitude. The yellow jacket you see me wearing was a huge color risk for me. I’ve always adored the color but never felt it would look right on me. But this jacket has become a statement piece for me throughout autumn to add a pop of color to any outfit.

I decided to come out and try wearing something other than the same pairs of jeans I’ve owned for about two years now. Skirts and shorts are something I never liked the way I looked in, I felt like it drew attention to the fact that I was a very slim girl and feared people would think that it makes me look unhealthy. Truth is, I just never found the sort of style that suited me. The skort I’m wearing I feel fits me like a glove and throughout this month has been a go to look.

My boots however, have been my Autumn fave of the month. Covered in dragons I can safely say they make me feel like a badass and they add the amount of detail needed to spice up any outfit.

What I’m trying to explain to you is that it’s okay to come out of your shell and try something different. The moment you start to feel unhappy within yourself and the way you look, is the moment to change it.

Christian Dior Exhibition!

fashion, Lifestyle

Lately, fashion has become such an important interest of mine. If you’d of asked me a few years ago if I wanted to go to a Dior exhibition, I’d of probably replied ‘No thanks, I’m washing my hair.’ Fashion never used to be important to me, it never interested me. I was happy in a simple pair of jeans and a jumper (don’t get me wrong I still love those days) but the point is that I never cared about what was trendy or if what I was wearing was suited to ‘my style.’ Makeup and beauty was the only thing that bothered me about my appearance, as long as my face looked presentable, I didn’t care about whatever else was going on. Now, it’s a different story. Fashion is a huge interest of mine and recently I feel like I have finally discovered the sort of style that suits me and the type of clothing that I feel most comfortable in. So when invited by a friend to a Christian Dior exhibition I jumped at the chance.

The exhibition was held in Paris in its iconic fashion house celebrating its 70th year. This Dior exhibition titled the ‘Designer of dreams’ exhibition was the largest ever Dior event held looking back on not just the best Dior creations but some of the worlds most incredible designs. Something like this wouldn’t ever be available to visit where I live back home but living in the fashion capital of the world, well it was no surprise that this was something I could attend. After all in the words of the man himself “Paris is couture, Couture is Paris.” So we hopped on the train to Paris to attend the exhibition.

Now, I’m not just interested in fashion’s latest trends and what looks good, I’ve recently become fascinated with the history of fashion and it’s evolution from the past to the present. We arrived to the location of the exhibition and let me help y’all out here. The queue is ridiculous. So if you’re a local in Paris or you’re thinking of visiting to attend the exhibition, then PRE ORDER THOSE TICKETS ONLINE! It wasn’t really advertised that this was an option but we did some digging and it is possible. So plan your visit unless you wanna wait in a two hour queue. (You’re welcome.)

The first half of the exhibition consisted of a lot of dark rooms with the walls covered top to bottom with information and facts about Dior as a company and Christian Dior himself and his life. I’ll be honest half of the things I read about the company or Christian Dior I wasn’t ever aware of and it was truly fascinating to read.

Then after the facts and Christian Dior’s artistic work was presented to us, room after room you entered was filled with dresses that completely covered the rooms (some even as high as the ceiling.) Some rooms were filled with Dior perfume and lights and flowers and it honestly was just magical, that’s the only way I can describe it. You wandered through his different collections and every single one of them was mesmerising.

However, then came the best room of them all. The last room of the exhibition you entered was filled with some of the most beautiful gowns I have ever witnessed. Projection technology used in the room gave the appearance that glitter was raining down the walls. If I’m honest, you know how your Dad always says you’ll be a Princess to him no matter what and you kinda just nod and agree. This was the first time I genuinely felt that my Father’s words were true. Just standing in the centre of the room made you feel like a true Princess.

I feel it appropriate to label this the most incredible day I have had in Paris to date since I moved here. And if I’m completely honest, I think it’s going to be pretty hard to top this one.

I did hit up the gift shop on the way out and picked up a small magazine with some history on Dior and a Dior bookmark. And there was this massive Dior booked filled with literally everything but maybe I’ll have to save a few pennies and look into ordering that one in the future!

Thank you Christian Dior.

Rub-a-dub-dub, lunch in a tub // vegan cake and kilo stores!

Lifestyle

One thing I miss most about home is my weekly ritual of having a cuppa in the bath, whilst I watch a film and wind up looking like a prune by the time the end credits roll across the screen. Well, that and I could really do with a local Wetherspoons.

However, one thing I’ve learnt whilst living in France, is that Paris is a very strange place and that if you venture far enough you’ll find some quirky things.

meandemma

After getting lost a few times here and there we stumbled upon the café everyone had told us of. The café is beside a canal and is set up just like a small house. Reading reviews of Le Pavillon des canaux, many people had described the café as an Alice in Wonderland style Doll’s house and they’re not wrong. Whether you chose to have a coffee in the living room or kitchen, lunch in a tub or a slice of cake in the bedroom the riverside café provides a quirky atmosphere with a beautiful view.

We sat for hours drinking coffee and taking posed pictures for each other (what are friends for if not for taking photos of you for your Instagram?)

We then took the metro to a place called Chatelet in Paris and if I may so say myself I’m far better at this metro thing than my parents said I’d be. There we found kilo stores – of which I didn’t even know was a thing until now but who doesn’t love a bargain.

We then found a cute little café by the name of Cloud Cakes and if you didn’t already know it was vegan upon your visit, then you wouldn’t ever have guessed. (I’d like to point out I am not vegan myself but why say no to experiencing different things?)

It was the first time I’d actually properly explored Paris since moving to France and all in all it was a fantastic day if you ignore the fact a group of men tried to mug us. But that’s another story for another time ey!

There’s no such thing as extra // Birthday Makeup & Outfit!

fashion, makeup

I have always said and will forever continue to believe that makeup has no limits. It is an art form that has no rules and restrictions and for my birthday this year I planned to create a look with exactly this in mind.

Wanting to create a look I had never really done before it’s safe to say I broke my bank account on multiple makeup shopping spree’s. I wanted to include as many new products as possible that I had never tried and after all there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself for your birthday right?

Anyone that knows me personally knows that it was clear I was going to be dressed head to toe in black. Therefore, I wanted my makeup to breathe a pop of colour into my overall look and to be the focal point of the entire image.

Some people say less is more but for me that is never the case. Plus, I have always been a huge fan of drag styled makeup and so I wanted to set myself the challenge of creating a wearable drag look.

I decided to go for a clashing purple smoky eye with a bright red bold lip. I’m happy with the final look that was created and was impressed with all of the new products that I used to help piece this look together.

I have put together a list of all the products I used for this look so you can try it out for yourself or use it to inspire you for another look. I’ve also left you with my thoughts on any of the new products that I tried out in the process.

Bonjour Paris, Au revoir England!

Lifestyle

So I’m making a comeback! A brand new blog, a brand new me and a brand new country! That’s right, bye bye England!

Little old me has packed her bags and I’ve currently been living in France for about a month and a half now. I wanted to settle in and get used to the swing of things here before I began to document my journey but now I feel is the right time to explain myself! I’ll be honest and admit that I kinda lost all motivation for writing for a period of time and I guess a lot of it was also me simply being lazy. However, I’ve finally sorted my act out and I’m back with what I think shall be a better blog and with much more inspiration for blog posts.

After quitting Uni and spending some time (by some time I mean everyday) sat on my arse doing nothing, I decided it was probably about time I found something to do with my life. I was looking for any old job that I could find but wasn’t having much luck. Then after being tagged in a Facebook post about an audition, I decided to attend. A week later I received an email and my still drunken mind from the previous night managed to make it out (eventually) and I realised in three weeks time I would be moving to Paris for 8 months. Shit.

Eiffel Tower

I now work in Disneyland Paris as a character performer. Having been here and working for nearly two months now I have met some of the most incredible people in my life and it is safe to say I have fallen in love with Paris.

Moving away from home was nothing new to me after already having lived away from home at Uni. However, moving country definitely was and has been a big step for one little gal. I must say, my French wasn’t the best to begin with but I’d like to think I’ve made a big improvement (as we say in France C’est Bonne!)

As cliché as it sounds, with a job like this and living in such a beautiful part of the world sometimes I do have to pinch myself to make sure I’m not dreaming. After all, considering I spend most days of the week in the most magical place on earth, it kind of feels like I’m living in my own fairy-tale.

I have so much to talk about and show you but I don’t wanna cram it all into one giant post. Plus I feel it’ll be nicer to show you each of my adventures so far in future posts. So keep your eyes pealed because I’m back and better than ever (I hope!)

Au revoir for now!
